Start / Finish
This out-and-back trail begins and ends at the Sawyer Burn Track car park, a convenient 45-minute drive from Wanaka, making it perfect for a day trip.
Season
While we hiked this peak in July 2024, encountering icy and snowy conditions, the summer months typically offer a more accessible trail with melted snow.
Maps / Info
For the latest conditions and avalanche information, consult the Tititea / Mount Aspiring National Park Visitor Centre. Remember, the trail crosses avalanche paths, so staying informed is crucial.
Food / Water
No huts or water sources are along the route, so be sure to pack enough water, especially on warm summer days.
Route / Conditions
The hike starts on the maintained Sawyer Burn Track. Once you reach the treeline, a side track leading up the ridge marks the beginning of the off-trail section. The rest of the hike follows unmarked ridge lines to the summit.
Winter Considerations: Winter conditions can make the trail challenging, with snow covering the terrain and increasing the risk of avalanche. Proper navigation skills and winter hiking experience are essential.
