Starting from Lake Bohinj, the goal was to get up into the mountains for a 35km. After winding through alpine pastures, I began to come past the Slovenian mountain huts. As charming as they appeared, I'd have to save my visit for another day, as I had places to be!
As I climbed higher into the mountains, I began to notice signs to Triglavski dom, the highest peak in Slovenia. Approaching the mountain, a sign lured me in, promising a 30min venture to the summit. Hot tip dom does not mean peak, it means hut... I had a long way to go.
Anyone who has done research on the summit will tell you that via ferrata kits and helmets are strongly recommended (rock fall, yada yada). Well, as I had done no research, it was a great shock to discover that 99% of other adventurers were equipped with said equipment.
As I pulled myself up the wire railing with my Fractel cap and Salomon hydration vest, I was grateful that I couldn't see what lay ahead.
Overtaking streams of hikers clipping in to every part of the segment, I made it to summit, only to be greeted by a full whiteout.
Descending proved to be equally as exciting, with the back way off Triglav leading down some more via ferrata sections, across a glacier and back to the Triglavski hut for a 6 euro anti-bonk Pepsi.
The path back to the lake, Amelia, and a 0.5% Isotonic Radler.
